AACI’s 16 Day South Africa & Namibia Adventure

 January 12-26, 2023

AACI invites you to join us on the beautiful Norwegian Jade Cruise Liner for an exotic cruise to South Africa and Namibia. Spending a relaxing pre cruise Shabbat in Cape Town with a visit to the Cape Town and surrounding areas.

12.1.23 – Thursday – Cape Town
After landing in Cape Town in the afternoon, we will make our way to the hotel while getting to know Cape Town for the first time. We will use the road to the hotel to develop our understanding of the charming city located at the southern end of the planet. Check in rooms and rest at the hotel before a Kosher dinner.

13.1.23 – Friday – Cape Town – Cape of Good Hope Reserve
After an early breakfast, we will make our way towards the Cape of Good Hope Reserve where the famous meeting of ocean currents is located, which is the meeting point between the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. The place was first discovered in 1488 by the Portuguese Bartholomew Dias who called the place “Cape of Storms”, but it was only about a decade later that its current name was established because it was a good omen for the opening of a trade route to the East. Using a bird’s eye view we can witness the meeting where two large currents are supposed to meet – the cold current of the Atlantic Ocean with the warm current of the Indian Ocean. We will continue on a panoramic road to the penguin colony.  In the early afternoon we will return to the hotel to get ready for Kabbalat Shabbat.

14.1.23 – Shabbat – Cape Town
We will take advantage of Shabbat to slow down, rest and gather strength for the amazing nature experiences that await us. You can go for a walk along the beautiful promenade that kisses the Atlantic Ocean or enjoy cheerful street shows. We will have Shabbat prayers, Shabbat meals as usual, lectures and after Havdalah (Shabbat ends at 20:43) enjoy free time.

15.1.23 – Sunday – Cape Town – Table Mountain – Cruise Departure
After an early breakfast at the hotel and checking out, we will make our way to the ship that will be our home for the next 12 days. Immediately after we check in and send our luggage to the rooms and if time permits, we will go on a tour of Cape Town, the constitutional capital city of South Africa, which is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world. We will take the cable car to Table Mountain (depending on the weather). The name of the mountain was given to it because of its table-like shape. Table Mountain, which rises to a height of 1086 m above the ground, is surrounded by peaks and hills that also have nicknames that have taken root among the millions of visitors to this site. After the tour and the spectacular views from the mountain we will return to the ship in the early afternoon further to prepare for the start of the fascinating voyage that awaits us. Dinner and continued recreation on the ship.

*If the weather/congestion in lines will not allow us to go up to the Table Mountain – we will make an alternative plan adapted to the weather conditions that day.

16.1.23 – Monday – Oudtshoorn – Mossel Bay
Upon disembarking from the ship, we will go to the city of Oudtshoorn, which is in a semi-desert area. We will cross the Oteniqua Mountains in a beautiful pass. We will start our tour in large stalactite caves that were discovered in 1780. The tour will be held in the two most beautiful halls with different geological displays. We will continue to a breeding and conservation farm for animals that are in danger of extinction, we will see cheetahs, lions, rhinos and more. We will also visit the local museum where there is a corner for the large Jewish community that was here at the end of the 19th century, and which gave the city the nickname ‘Little Jerusalem’. In the early afternoon we will return to the ship for the continuation of the voyage.

17.1.23 – Tuesday – Port Elizabeth – Tsitsikamma Forest Coastal Reserve
Early in the morning we anchor at Port Elizabeth. During our trip to the Tsitsikamma nature reserve which is considered one of the most beautiful in South Africa, we will go up the famous “Garden Route ” until we reach the reserve which combines a thick forest, the coast of the Indian Ocean and Storms River. We will go on a walking route and have the option of bathing in the natural pool or on the Indian Ocean beach. Back in the afternoon for the cruise and continue spending time on the ship.

18.1.23 – Wednesday – A day at sea – and mooring towards evening in Richards Bay
A day at sea ahead of us to get to know and enjoy the ship’s facilities. During the day we will hear a lecture from the guide. It is also a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the variety of options the Jade Ship has to offer. Dozens of entertainment complexes, pools, bars, sunbathing areas and more await us on the ship. Every evening you will receive an up-to-date information page in your rooms with dozens of possible activities for you and all that is left for you is to choose…

19.1.23 Richards Bay – Shishlui Wildlife Reserve
Upon disembarking, we will make our way to the oldest animal reserve in the DRAP – the Shishlui Reserve,  for a tour around this topographically beautiful reserve where we will observe the wild animals in their natural environment. At the end of the tour, we will return to the port and on the way back will stop at a souvenir market belonging to the local native Zulu tribe.

We will continue to the botanical garden to breathe in the scents of flowers, we will also visit the busy city center and the colonial town hall, we will visit Little India, the large Indian quarter and walk around the colorful market. We will visit U Shaka center close to the beach. Towards the afternoon we will return to the ship to get ready for Shabbat. Candle lighting is at 18:42.  We will enjoy Kabbalat Shabbat and a festive and exciting dinner on the heart of the sea.

21-22.1.23 – Saturday &  Sunday – Fun days at sea
Two whole days of great pleasure sailing in the middle of the sea on board one of the most prestigious ships. Dozens of staff members will make sure we enjoy our time in the way we choose. Whether participating in one of the dozens of activities on the ship or choosing to sit in a quiet corner with a drink and  a book, and the incomparable sound of the waves. During Shabbat we enjoy Shabbat meals and Shabbat atmosphere as well as lectures.

23.1.23 – Monday – Lüderitz
This morning we will take a catamaran cruise to Pelicans Island. The entire island was declared a nature reserve with no ground access for humans. During the amazing cruise we will see dolphins, seals and maybe whales, and we hope to be able to see many penguins nesting along the island’s shores. At the end of the cruise, we will go on a walking tour of the city of Luderitz to see the houses of worship built during the heyday by Germans who settled here following the discovery of the rich diamond deposits near the city.

24.1.23 – Tuesday – Walvis Bay – Walvis Bay
After breakfast we will drive in special off-road vehicles towards the wonderful dunes of Namibia that slide into the ocean. We will also visit the large flamingo lagoon which includes many and varied waterfowl.

25.1.23 – Wednesday –A fun day at sea
A last and special opportunity to take advantage of our stay on the ship for recreation and shopping. You can try one of the dozens of spa treatments (for an additional fee), join the various classes, visit the impressive gym where you can enjoy the wide sea view spread out before you, and all this during the fitness activity of your choice, or simply order another cocktail on the upper deck of the ship. You can also complete your shopping. Whatever you choose, use the day to rest and refresh yourself before returning to Israel. We will meet in the afternoon for the conclusion of the cruise and celebrate together with an amazing dinner and say goodbye to the dedicated staff who accompanied us during the cruise.

26.1.23 – Thursday – Cape Town – National Highway
This morning we say goodbye to our home of the last 12 days. After an early breakfast and the completion of the check-out procedure, we get off the amazing ship and try to take advantage of our last moments in South Africa on this trip. During a two-hour tour before we get to the airport, we will try to do the areas we did not have time to do on Sunday before boarding the ship.
